Pick the lap

Every timed lap of every driver, in every session of the weekend. Take two and see where the time is gained.

Telemetry · reading guide

Read the lap, not just the line.

First locate the gain on the speed trace. Then use throttle, brake and gear to ask what the driver did differently. The gap tells where the lap changes; it does not assign a cause on its own.

  • 1 · SpeedA higher exit speed keeps paying down the following straight. A later top speed alone can begin much earlier.
  • 2 · ThrottleEarlier throttle is useful only if the speed line then rises sooner. Read the two channels together.
  • 3 · BrakeRed means braking is on. It is a state, not brake-pressure data: it says where to look, not how hard the pedal was pressed.
  • 4 · Gap and gearPositive gap means the first driver is behind. Use gear changes as a clue to phase and rotation, never as a verdict by themselves.

Worked example · Canada 2026 qualifying

Lap 23, Soft: Russell 1:12.578 versus Antonelli 1:12.646. Russell is 0.068 s ahead, but the lap is not one continuous gain.

S1Russell +0.053 s
S2Russell −0.159 s
S3Russell +0.038 s

Read the split at ①: Antonelli is ahead after sector 1. At ②, follow the traces through sector 2, where Russell reverses it. At ③ Antonelli takes a little back, but not enough. The example opens the exact two laps and puts the three markers on every trace.

The traces are resampled by lap distance. Read the delta as the place where time moves; the sector splits above are the timing reference to the millisecond.
